We go back to the ring and out first comes Jey Uso to a pop. Jey takes the mic and says he’s hyped up. He plugs Clash of Champions on Sunday as we see Paul Heyman and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns watching the match from backstage. Uso plugs the match. He addresses Corey Graves and says Graves was supposed to interview him, but he can have the night off. Uso shows us how he and Reigns won the Samoan Street Fight over Sheamus and King Baron Corbin last week, and their post-match hug after Jey joked around with the title belt. We also see how Reigns fumed as Jey left the ring, looking back at Heyman, who nodded in approval.

Jey says people have asked him all week about that look behind his back. He says let’s ask Roman about it. Fans boo as we see Reigns and Heyman backstage again. Uso asks Reigns what’s up with that look but Reigns isn’t coming out. Uso thought they were better than that but he saw Reigns smile in his face and frown behind his back. What is it? The camera cuts backstage again and Heyman is walking out of Reigns’ locker room. Reigns believes the whole world deserves to hear what Reigns has to say to his cousin, face to face, in the ring. Here’s where we have it all wrong – that talk won’t happen when Jey wants it to happen, it will happen when Reigns wants it to happen. Heyman absolutely positively happens that the face to face discussion will happen, in the ring, tonight.

We go back to the ring for tonight’s main event and out first comes WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns with manager Paul Heyman. They stand together on the stage as the pyro goes off. The music starts up as Jey Uso makes his way out next. Reigns watches his cousin wrap his entrance as we go back to commercial.

Sheamus pulls Reigns to the floor and they trade shots. Jey leaps off the top of the barrier to drop Corbin on the floor. Sheamus ends up knocked over the barrier after shots from both competitors. Corbin ends up dropping Jey on the floor with Deep Six after throwing a chair at Reigns’ face to drop him.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring with his special counsel Paul Heyman.

Paul says he has been authorized to enlighten you on some history.  Two weeks ago, we let the secret out of the bag and told everyone what only the two of them know.  Two days later, Roman Reigns wrecked everyone and he left as the Universal Champion.  Last Friday, your tribal chief said to tell you everything.  He laid all of his cards on the table and on that same night, his bloodline and family, Jey Uso stepped up.  Not only did Jey emerge as the only benefactor of a Fatal Four Way, he dethroned a king, he braved a Brogue, and he solved a Riddle to become the number one contender for the Universal Championship.  Paul says he has been given the opportunity to introduce that number one contender.  He may be his cousin, but he should be his blood brother . . .Jey Uso.

Jey makes his way to the ring.

Jey says Paul goes way back with his family so he has some love for him.  Jey thanks Paul because he gets to compete against his blood for the Universal Championship.

Paul apologizes for interrupting.  Paul says all of the appreciation should go to your cousin.  This was Roman’s idea when Big E went down.  Paul says he did what your tribal chief wanted.

Roman says Jey doesn’t have to thank him because they are blood.  Years, we have thought about this.  Roman says he is proud of Jey.  The whole family is proud of you.  You earned this and you are going to be in the main event.  You are going to take a huge payday home.  This is your moment.  At Clash of Champions, it won’t be your moment.  Like when we were kids, I am going to whoop your ass.  This needs to stay on my shoulder for our family to be where it is.  After I whoop your ass, then  it will all be love.

Orlando, Florida – Amway Center

– We go right to the ring and the music hits as new WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way out with Paul Heyman right behind him. The boos get louder as Reigns stands on the stage. He raises the title in the air and stares straight ahead. Reigns looks around some before the pyro explodes on the stage. Heyman is all business as they march to the ring while Greg Hamilton does the introductions.

Reigns hits the ring and stands in the middle. He raises the title again as more fireworks explode behind him. Heyman takes the mic and says just when we thought Heyman was out, Reigns pulled him back in. Heyman tells fans not to make a fool out of themselves for corrupting Reigns because he can assure us that it’s Reigns corrupting him. Why would this happen? Because Heyman was gone. Tossed aside, thrown into the shark-infested ocean of obscurity, only to be rescued, saved and pulled onto The Island of Relevancy, by this man. Because they did the same damn thing to Reigns that they did to Heyman.

Heyman asks what happened to the thank yous and the appreciation, through all the executive decisions to life threatening illnesses, Reigns delivered, and over-delivered. Nobody offered to say thank you or offer genuine appreciation, Heyman says. He says Reigns’ “little bit of time off” was questioned, and what did they do with his title? Heyman goes on about how a “monster” or a “fiend” aren’t meant to be champions. He says Roman’s reign as your champion has only been defined by what WWE purports itself to be built on – family, tradition, legacy, the responsibility of being a champion and the accountability of owning one’s action as your champion. And that is who Heyman says this champion is. He brings up how RAW had a Triple Threat to determine the Clash of Champions opponent for WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Heyman points at Reigns and says this champion will be bigger, badder, more sensational and more spectacular, than everyone else that has come before him. While they have the Triple Threat on RAW, we will have a Fatal 4 Way on SmackDown tonight. The winner will become the sacrificial lamb of The Big Dog at Clash of Champions. Heyman says the names of the 4 competitors don’t deserve to come out of his mouth of Reigns’ mouth, so he will leave it to Anderson Cooper (Cole) and Carmella’s latest boyfriend (Graves). Heyman goes on and says he serves a special counsel to the tribal chief – your reigning, defending, undisputed, Universal Heavyweight Champion of Reigns.

Orlando, Florida – Amway Center

Vince McMahon is in the house tonight. Pearce sends security on their way. Pearce knocks and walks into Vince’s office. Pearce tries to fist bump Vince but he’s not interested. Vince says he seems a bit nervous, which is normal for people who come around him. Vince has a mission for Pearce tonight. He hypes the No Holds Barred Triple Threat at Payback and hands Pearce the contract for the match. He tells Pearce he needs their signatures on the paper before the night is over.

Back from the break and Adam Pearce is knocking on Roman Reigns’ door but no one answers. Adam Pearce is backstage with Roman Reigns, who has the Payback main event contract. Reigns says he is not signing as he wants some changes to the contract. He guarantees to be in the match on Sunday and to break everyone, then leave. He also guarantees to win back the Universal Title, which he says he never lost in the first place. Reigns says that is not just a prediction, that is a spoiler. The camera then shows Paul Heyman sitting down next to Reigns as Reigns looks up at Pearce. Heyman leans over Reigns and says, “Believe that.” It looks like Reigns has hired Heyman for his services. Reigns looks down at the Payback contract as the Payback go-home edition of SmackDown goes off the air.

He has been blessed with the highs and the lows. As long as he has his health and can wake up and participate the next day. He says it feels good to be back and in the main event. Roman is asked about the critics who feel that Roman does not belong in the main event. Roman says he has been dealing with these critics all these years.

If he can main event a small town in front of 5,000 people during the year, why can’t he main event the biggest show. Why can’t he capitalize on the hard work he has done night in and night out. No one has the level of commitment that he has. He came back to do what he loves. He is not bowing down to anyone.

Cole brings up that this match is spear versus spear. Cole is asked about Goldberg’s comments about bulldozing Roman. Roman says he doesn’t know if Goldberg is smart enough to work a bulldozer since he went to Georgia. Goldberg is a legend but he is a part timer. Roman says this is all he thinks about. He was bred and groomed for this. He has mastered the nuances of performance and it shows in the ring. He is going to whoop Goldberg’s ass in the main event and get back his title.
