Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Universal Title: Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns
At WWE Royal Rumble, Kevin Owens challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship in a Last Man Standing Match. This bout marked the third time Owens has challenged Reigns for the title. The match started as a brawl, and Reigns caught Owens with a Superman Punch early on. Likewise, Owens hit a pop-up powerbomb.
Reigns drilled Owens with a Spear at ringside to take control. He then hit Owens with the steel steps. “The Prizefighter” bashed Reigns head against the ThunderDome screens to turn the momentum in his favor. Both men brawled high up in the ThunderDome. Owens wisely attacked Reigns’ knee with a steel chair. But Reigns threw him off the stage and sent the challenger crashing through a table.
Owens crawled to a workout ring backstage, and Reigns ran him over with a golf cart. The challenger got back to his feet, and Reigns angrily unloaded on him. Owens power bombed Reigns onto a table and hit a Frog Splash to send him through it. He then dove off a forklift onto Reigns and sent him crashing through another table. A Spear through the entrance stage gave Reigns some breathing room.
Owens got some handcuffs and chained Reigns to a lighting post while he was lying down. Reigns couldn’t climb to his feet, so he pulled the referee and slammed him into the post. Paul Heyman then uncuffed Reigns. “The Head of the Table” locked in a guillotine hold and choked Owens out. Owens couldn’t stand up, so Reigns won the match and retained his title.
